Project update | December 2022
The redevelopment of the Harbourside Shopping Centre (2-10 Darling Drive, Darling Harbour) is part of the overall rejuvenation of the Darling Harbour precinct. Site establishment activities will commence shortly including site establishment, hoardings, and wayfinding signage. You will start to see these works occurring around the site during December 2022.
What’s happening?
Closure of the existing Harbourside Shopping Centre will occur from 10 January 2023. From this time, the follow activities will occur.
• Existing Harbourside pedestrian bridge will be closed to pedestrian access
• Northern pedestrian bridge adjacent to Pyrmont Bridge will be closed to pedestrian access
• Wayfinding signage will be installed at key locations to provide information for alternative pathways
• Hoardings will be installed around the site
• Pedestrian access will be maintained along the waterfront promenade
• Installation of new lighting and CCTV to pedestrian areas around the site
How will the work impact me?
The site establishment activities are being undertaken to ensure the site is secure prior to demolition works in 2023. Also, these activities are to ensure safe pedestrian access around the site.
We anticipate these activities will cause minimal noise, vibration and dust impacts.
Minor traffic impacts may occur during the installation of hoardings along Darling Drive.
Working hours
These activities will be undertaken during the following hours:
• Monday to Friday 7am – 6pm
• Saturdays 8am – 1pm
• No work on Sundays or Public Holidays.
Installation of hoardings along the Light Rail Corridor will be required to be undertaken at night to Light Rail Authority requirements.
Traffic and Pedestrian Changes
Pedestrian detours are in place for the duration of demolition and construction works.
Access via existing pedestrian bridges will be closed from January 2023 with temporary hoardings at existing entry points. Pedestrians can use the existing footpaths and signalised crossings on Murray Steet to join the Pyrmont Bridge.
Alternatively, pedestrians can use the existing pedestrian access path in the carpark, use the lifts or stairs to ground floor, cross the Light Rail Corridor via the pedestrian crossing and the signalised crossing over Darling Drive to join the waterfront boulevard to the south of the site. Signage will be in place to guide pedestrians.
