The Project
Project Overview
The redevelopment of Harbourside will reimagine the Darling Harbour waterfront for the 21st century, reconnect with the people and places of Pyrmont, and create a network of new public spaces that bring residents, workers, tourists, and locals together in a locally loved mixed-used precinct of the future.
Key principles that underpin the vision:
Place
Reimagine urban life through a new mixed-use precinct that reconnects Pyrmont to the Darling Harbour waterfront and becomes an integral part of local and global Sydney.
Precinct
Activate the precinct with a range of services for locals, retail patrons, workplace tenants and visitors, residents, and tourists. Key movement paths will connect to welcoming and open public spaces that consider scale, and line building edges and entries with retail and public uses.
People
Integrate Sydneysiders and visitors to create a locally loved highly attractive place to bring a diverse mix of people together to work, live, relax, and be entertained in and around the precinct.
Public Realm
Host a diversity of public places and spaces across 10,200sqm of public domain, that cater for a range of activities and become a platform for the everyday and a venue for special events.
Having secured a 1st stage approval from the NSW Government,
Mirvac’s 87,000sqm mixed use development includes:
33,500 m2
of office space
10,000 m2
of shopping, entertainment and hospitality space
Approx. 265
luxury apartments within a 42 storey residential tower which sits above the podium
10,200 m2
of public domain includes a proposed 3,500sqm Waterfront Gardens, as well as a widened Waterfront Promenade
The Site
Located adjacent to Sydney’s CBD, Darling Harbour is one of Sydney’s most important tourism and entertainment precincts. Today, it is home to many of Sydney’s premium attractions, including the Australian National Maritime Museum, Sydney Wildlife World, Sydney Aquarium, the International Convention Centre Sydney and the Chinese Garden of Friendship. A children’s adventure playground, cafes and the Cockle Bay Wharf precinct offer something for all the family while the location also hosts a series of headline events and festivals throughout the year.
The Harbourside site occupies an area of approximately 2.05 hectares within the north-western area of the Darling Harbour precinct. The site is bound by Pyrmont Bridge to the north, the ICC Sydney site to the south, Darling Drive and the alignment of the light rail to the west and Cockle Bay to the east.
The redevelopment of Harbourside presents opportunities to revitalise the northwest area of the Darling Harbour precinct and reinstate natural, pedestrian connections linking Darling Harbour with Pyrmont.
Liz Westgarth, Hassell Principal said
“Known as Tumbalong by it’s traditional owners, the landmark Sydney site of Darling Harbour, has a long, rich, and layered history, which provides a unique context for world-class architecture and place-making to inspire future story creation.
”The continued development of the site’s exceptional character and identity follows in the tradition of the local first nation Gadigal and Wangal people. The intention for Harbourside is to create a shared country, a place for all.”
